Sights in Southern South Tyrol

Southern South Tyrol is probably one of the mellowest countryside in South Tyrol: wide vineyards and orchards, suave hills and beautiful lakes and on and off cozy small wine-villages, where ancient traditions are still alive.

The wine-villages are reachable on the South Tyrolean wine road. They are worth visiting, many wine cellars and wine growing estates are situated in and near the romantic villages, where you can spend some relaxing hours by tasting wine and South Tyrolean specialties.

The cultural hotspot of Southern South Tyrol however is Bozen. In 2008 a museum of modern art opened there, called “Museion”. Another important museum is the archeological museum where the ice-mummy "Ötzi" is showed and the beautiful arcades through the old town of Bozen.

Other sights you can find also outside of Bozen: for instance Runkelstein Castle, the Kalterersee Lake or the modern wine-growing-estate Manincor in Kaltern.
